Laws of the
Prenatal Epochs

Introduction

First of all my tribute goes to Charles A. Jayne Jr. (et al.) for his amazingly pioneering work in relation to the Prenatal and Postnatal Epochs. The table below is based upon his work, and the work of his co-workers.

The Prenatal Epochs refer to the stages that the Soul goes through on its Journey into and out of Manifestation. With all astrology, it is a very important moment when something is initiated, because the pattern then found in the heavens, will be the governing pattern of that which was initiated.

The Table contains the Laws that are necessary to calculate the different Epochs. The software Solar Fire has these Laws programmed and will help you do all the calculations. You can order Solar Fire here. In any event one should know the Laws behind the calculations, and this can be achieved by studying the table below.

Some will notice how the Jayne Conception chart somewhat differ in its Laws from that suggested by E.H. Bailey in his "The Prenatal Epoch". It is my experience that Jayne was correct in allowing greater flexibility than E.H. Bailey did.

Archetype and Approximation - symbolical and actual charts

I would say that these Epochs are 'symbolical' charts, which are calculated based upon certain governing Laws that are in alignment with the workings of the universe. The Laws reflect what has already taken place in the greater whole, and on a lesser scale we now repeat the process, following the same Laws.

For example, there is probably an 'actual' conception chart for the exact moment of the first division of the original cell. This exact moment may not exactly correspond to the Law determining the timing of the Prenatal Epoch (in this case the Conception chart). However, there will be one Conception chart, calculated according to the Laws, which the fetus will 'symbolically' be born under.

This means that there may be one 'symbolical' chart based upon the Laws, and one 'actual' chart which is liable to the imperfections of matter. We have to have in mind that the Laws represent the 'perfect order', whereas manifestation is as yet imperfect. The Laws and the resulting 'symbolical' charts are the intended pattern, and the 'actual' chart is the approximation of that archetype. Both however, have great influence, but the archetypal chart is usually the only one accessible, as it is possible for astrologers to derive by using the Laws here given.

Example

If we for example would like to calculate the Uranus Epoch, also called the Conception chart, we see from the table that we have to go back approximately nine months before birth (unless we know it is a seven months child). We also see that the Epoch for short is called the 'C' Epoch. We also see that the Moon of the Conception Epoch have to be syzygy (meaning either conjunct or opposed) the 'B' Ascendant--'B' meaning the Birth chart Ascendant. Then we also see that a 'light' in the Conception chart--in this case the the Moon (Lunar)--have to be aligned with the Ascendant or Descendant angles of the 'B' chart.
